About This Spot

Stepping into Japan Ginger in downtown Issaquah feels like discovering a quiet, unassuming retreat where care and warmth are woven into every detail. The space is modest and inviting, sitting calmly alongside quaint shops, inviting a slower, more thoughtful dining rhythm. Here, the atmosphere encourages connection—between the kitchen and the table, between staff and guests—a gentle reminder that good food is as much about the moments shared around it as the flavors themselves.

The menu quietly celebrates the breadth of Japanese comfort food, from carefully crafted sushi rolls to sizzling teriyaki dishes served just right—not too dry, never rushed. The freshest fish and thoughtful combinations reveal a passion for balance and simplicity, where each bite feels both familiar and a little special. Whether savoring a colorful roll or a warm bowl of Tonkatsu, guests often find themselves returning not just for the food, but for the sense of genuine hospitality that lingers long after the last bite.

Japan Ginger thrives as a cozy neighborhood spot where the pace softens and attentive, kindly service makes every visitor feel seen. It’s the kind of place where a solo lunch or an easy dinner with friends can unfold without distractions—a quiet gem tucked into the heart of the town, where every meal is a small celebration of everyday moments.

This place was great! I got the chicken and beef teriyaki. I thought the portion sizes were great for the price and also very tasty! Owner is very polite, hospitable and attentive.

My husband and I found this little hidden gem while we were heading home from spending the afternoon at the lake. The restaurant is located in a downtown area with cute quaint shops and eateries. There is a decent amount of parking in the lot right next to the building. We came here on a Tuesday evening which apparently is one of their slowest days of the week. The owner is a very kind Japanese man who also made our sushi. We ordered the Seattle roll, five color fish roll, a few types of nigiri sushi and the hamachi sashimi combo. However, prior to our meal, the chef/owner gave us each a small garden salad as an appetizer. Everything tasted very fresh and delicious. As if that wasn't enough, upon clearing our table after our meal, the chef/owner gave us a few complimentary slices of watermelon to help cleanse the pallet. The ambiance was very clean and cozy with a good amount of seating to accommodate many customers. The prices are very reasonable. Overall, we truly enjoyed our experience and look forward to coming when whenever we are in the area.

We had a wonderful lunch at Japan Ginger. The service was excellent and the sushi was very fresh. Our favorite roll was the five color fish roll. Highly recommend this restaurant. We will return!

10 out of 10! This is a hidden gem. It’s touted as a teriyaki place but it’s the sushi I come for. I have been here several times and it never has more than one or two people inside. The sweet man who I assume owns it is always here and seems to delight in making my delicious sushi.

Cute and modest little place with actually reasonable prices and really delicious food! And the teriyaki chicken is NOT DRY THANK GOODNESS!!!!!!!! Cooked to perfection and served hot! Broccoli salad is so much better than the lettuce version! 100/10

Very simple food. Not breaking any barriers in new cuisine. Solid Tereyaki, Soba & Sushi. Plus served by a very kind old Japanese man who has run this restaurant for over 20 years. Decor is simple and clean. Great for a casual date night.

I love it! I love Issaquah! I love Japan Ginger! So excited to have found a good sushi place where i can scoot or walk to. they have some fresh fish, i got the tuna donburi and my wifey wasn't feeling sushi, so she ordered chicken teriyaki. both were really good! so if you have kids that don't like sushi, they'll definitely find something that they like here. Quick service and staff are very nice. Japan ginger has been in Issaquah since 2004! so that tells you that they are doing something right! i'll probably frequent this joint to have some sake and tuna after work.
